Post-smolt producer BioFish preps for 8th RAS project

Norwegian post-smolt producer BioFish announced it is not ready to deploy its eighth recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in support of its ongoing growth plans.

“The journey continues, we have now got a new building in place to be able to increase production capacity at the facility. With the eighth self-designed RAS system underway, we look forward to what the future holds,” the company announced in its LinkedIn page.

BioFish was founded in 2016. The company is focused in producing high-quality smolt for salmon farms located along the Norwegian coast.

The aquaculture new publication Landbased AQ, reports that the RAS being used by BioFish is a “homemade system.” The system was designed by the company’s own general manager. The RAS recycles at least 99 per cent of the water used by the facility.

Recently, the company completed construction of a new RAS facility with the installation of a seawater outlet pipe, an automatic water surveillance system, a grading system and a tank-based video surveillance systems. The company plans to produce up to five million smolts.
