Land-based salmon farmer, Atlantic Sapphire, said it harvested a total volume of about 1,150 tonnes head-on-gutted (HOG) in the first quarter of 2024, ended on March 31.

The company also said the net biomass gain for the same period was approximately 1,200 tonnes of realized live weight (RLW).

Atlantic Sapphire had challenges with high water temperatures in 2023 and was hoping to have a better 2024. The high water temperature issues from July to September caused slower growth in Q3 2023, with a net biomass gain of approximately 100 tonnes RLW. But in Q4 2023, the total net biomass gain including freshwater was about 1,100 tonnes RLW.

The company has also been closely monitoring maturation levels in its stock since last year.

“The company has since seen higher levels of maturation in the fish groups that are expected to be harvested in H1 2024, which may impact price achievement and the ability of these fish groups to achieve the same biological performance as seen in June 2023,” the company wrote in a press statement.

The Q1 2024 operational update will be published on April 18.
