Viking Aqua taps Helland Silosystem as RAS feeder provider

Helland Silosystem has signed a contract with Viking Aqua AS to provide the feeding equipment for the Norwegian land-based salmon farmer’s planned recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in Skipavika, Gulen in Norway.
The contract covers development, delivery and “continuous optimisation for operation, technology and performance,” a press release from Viking Aqua said.
The land-based facility is designed for 33,000 tons of biomass at full production, of which 5,600 tons as post-smolt and 27,400 as food fish. Full production is estimated to begin in 2028.
Helland Silosystem is a family-owned manufacturer of silos for use in agriculture, aquaculture and industry. Its products for land-based farming are made with the aim of reducing the dust level from feed to tanks.
“Land-based farming facilities are an important investment area for Helland Silosystem, and we have invested considerable resources in developing and improving products for land-based farming,” said Gunnar O. Uthaug, sales manager at Helland Silosystem.
Helland’s feeding equipment has solutions for handling dosages in grams, and conveyors that transport up to 200t/h. Its automatic feeders that have been installed at several of the largest plants in Norway.
“Together, we will develop an energy-efficient feeding system for the RAS plant of the future – NextGen RAS,” said Trond Ove Høie, project director at Viking Aqua.
