Lerøy Seafood to offer RAS training program

Recent graduates in aquaculture or biology who are looking for opportunities in the growing recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) space could benefit from a training program now being offered by the Norwegian seafood company Lerøy Seafood Group.

The company recently announced its the launch of its RAS trainee 2023/2024.  The program period starts from August 2023 to August 2024. It’s a program which started in 2021 as a separate one-year trainee program within RAS/land-based production of fish. Today, the program provides four months of practice at each of Lerøy’s three large hatcheries based on recycling technology, and will provide a unique opportunity and thorough training in modern industrial production of salmon on land.

“The trainee scheme is very relevant in relation to my education. At school I learned all the theoretical stuff, while here I get to use the theory in practice,” said Kari Anne, a degree holder in civil engineering in inland aquaculture and seafood and former RAS trainee with the program. “…All the facilities are different. They are different RAS systems with different routines and focus areas, I would like to experience that.”

Since 2005, Lerøy has used RAS in its production of hatchery fish, and our employees are now among the foremost in the world in the areas of expertise covering biology, technology and production.

The program provides four months of practice at each of Lerøy’s three large hatcheries based on recycling technology, and will provide a unique opportunity and thorough training in modern industrial production of salmon on land.

The program will also involves project tasks and subject collections which are intended to give an insight into the group’s overall activities in the production of fish.

Lerøyn has three hatcheries Laksefjord, Belsvik and Kjærelva are located in Lebesby Municipality in Finnmark, Heim Municipality in Trøndelag and Fitjar Municipality in Vestland County.

Applicantion deadline is March 5, 2023.

The start date of the program is August 14, 2023.

Selected applicants will have full-time work at in Kjærelva, Belsvik, Laksefjord.
