Anaerobic digestion for converting aquaculture waste into energy

The intensive nature of RAS production facilities leads to the production of a waste stream rich in organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus that results in additional disposal costs. Anaerobic digestion may be a promising alternative to the management of RAS waste solids. The presentation will discuss the basic principles of anaerobic digestion and how it can be applied to recover energy from the waste stream. Additional concepts, such as “Co-digestion” for enhanced energy generation from the anaerobic digestion process will also be discussed.
