Kingfish Maine manager leaves to start aquaculture company in Florida

Former operations co-manager for Kingfish Maine, Megan Sorby, has left to start a new aquaculture company in Florida.
The company, Pine Island Redfish will use recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) to raise red drum fish at their location, a 150-acre property on Pine Island.
Global Seafood Alliance reported that Sorby, who has served as operations manager The Kingfish Company’s U.S. arm for the last four years, said the property has the important elements for their project, while working within Pine Island’s desire to maintain its natural and undeveloped farm feel.
“Previous farming activities on the property as well as the general location and site-specific characteristics are allowing us to establish operations with engineering that meets the goals we are all striving to achieve in the blue economy including water efficient technologies and climate resilience strategies,” said Sorby. “We are able to process effluent on site and recycle its nutrient profile for other applications that create a more circular food system.”
According to a report by The Ellsworth American, the Pine Island Redfish CEO will continue in an advisory role at Kingfish Maine, while her husband, Tom Sorby will take over as the sole operations manager.
